Giving your career the best shot

The actor’s headshot is arguably the most important marketing tool you have, and it shouldn’t be prohibitively expensive, as it so often is.

The headshot is often the first thing a casting director will look at before anything else is considered. As a working actor myself, I have a unique perspective when it comes to actor’s headshots. I understand what is required to get the right shot from both sides of the lens. It has to capture the real essence of you as an individual, not a heavily airbrushed and ‘Photoshopped’ version of yourself that is not representative. This is why you need a specialist actors’ headshot photographer, rather than other portrait or model style photographers. We work with actors and the industry all the time.

The Shoot

I prefer to shoot outdoors. This obviously has its own challenges, but the advantages far outweigh the negatives. There has been a real shift in the industry recently towards more natural looking headshots which daylight is perfect for capturing. I also have a home studio where we can achieve the traditional look and is weather proof. There are a range of backgrounds that can support the look we are going for, both inside and out. The shoot will usually last between an hour and an hour and a half typically, but I don’t put any limits on the time needed to get the right shots, it takes as long as it takes. I will discuss with you beforehand your requirements in terms of what ‘looks’ you need for your portfolio as often agents will ask for a range of looks these days rather than one generic image. I give you the time you need to change clothes and hair as required. The single most important aspect of the shoot I offer is a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, as that is the only way we are going to capture the perfect shot. I can give lots of technical pointers to help the shoot, but if we are not enjoying ourselves then none of that matters.

As soon as the shoot is done, I will email out ‘contact sheets’ to you, so you can start to look through the images and make decisions. Four choices from the shoot are included in the package fee and you will get these chosen images in the industry standard 10 x 8 format. I will work on your choices by cleaning them up and processing them in such a way that keeps that real essence of you. These finalised images will then be emailed to you in high resolution (usually around 8-10MB) I can also do them in a lower resolution for you if required. I keep the entire shoot saved on file, so you can come back to me at any time if you want any of the other shots processed. Although I maintain the copyright on the images, you are free to use them however you wish.

The Price

Three’s company

£180.00

If you would like to come along with another actor, I can shoot both of you together which reduces the individual cost a little, but also helps to keep the shoot even more relaxed when you have a friend alongside you.

Students

£80.00

I offer a very generous discount to current students. The package is reduced dramatically for exactly the same features as above, and only £140.00 in total if you bring a friend.

Standard

£100.00

That includes whatever time is needed to get the shots and four chosen images that I will work on after the shoot and then delivered to you by email as high resolution jpegs.

If you would like more images than the four included in the package then they are priced at only £5.00 per image. (If it’s a large amount of extra images required then we can negotiate a price.)

Prices for an entire year group of students or an agency are available on request.
